I Quit My Job During The Pandemic.

Here’s What I’ve Learned.

It was Thursday, July 30th, 2020. I woke up from my bed ready to start the day, and work. Than my mind was coming up with every excuse not to turn on the computer from my work from home, customer service position. It was the last two weeks, I have been mentally creating rewards of things I can do when I finish work, as an incentive to finish the day. Until, I couldn’t find anything else to keep me going and to remain motivated.

That is until I just quit.

When you become a subscriber to the YouTube Influencers, The Tik Tokers, and Medium, you read non-stop articles about retiring early, changing your life around and doing what you want to do, becoming a freelancer, getting into business, and chasing your dreams. You read articles from people whom were successful and completed it. All your left after is constantly thinking what you could do, only if.

I was tired of saying “only if” and just wanted to say now.

So I did. I quit. I signed up for a real estate course, started completing market research, found a broker, I wanted, that worked best for me. Started to have time to go back to learning code. Started researching how to become a freelancer. Started working on things I wanted to again. Eventually my mind caught up.

Instead of Saying “Only If” Say “What If”

I was raised in a part of society, many of us may know as only if. Only if I could quit my job, only if I could do what I love, only if I could retire. We don’t hear a lot of what if. Like What if I just decide to write a book, or what if I created a podcast? What if I create a webinar, or what if I hosted my own online event? Or what if I took a chance on myself instead of living life through others. What if people thought about things they always wanted to do and just did it. What if they just started. What if they created that business idea they always had? What if they stopped making excuses?

We could all be living our best life if we stop feeling the need to sacrifice it for our livelihood, and start sacrificing our livelihood for our best life.

Since that day, I so far have started rewriting for my book I started writing a while ago. I have started to think about how build an retail software business I have had since I was 16 years old. I pitched myself as a Data Entry/Analyst freelancer on LinkedIn. I started taking classes for my Real Estate Licenses, and I have started to design my new podcast Deep Data for my publication. And that’s in just under a week.

I have take risk on projects. Had a chance to work on things I want to and feel passionate about. Having the financial means to say no to a role, and yes to myself helped. I might not have passive income to last for a whole year. But enough to build my passions to make ends meet. Enough time to work on myself.

Even if you don’t have enough money to soft retire. Having enough money to take a break when you need to, is also being financial independent. To know for an x amount of months you will be good to go to take a vacation you need, a life reset or find your inner passion. To feel like yourself again.

We all need those breaks. Learn to take yours and find some independence, love yourself, and say yes to yourself.
